I'm kinda new to the "major" changing of pictures (I've done a lot of brightness and contrast/ colour changing) so if you think this is too much or if you have any tips on how to make it better feel free to tell me.

I tried to make this picture look kinda old.

Hi Aloner,

I did a few things with your lovely dog....

I removed some of the background (but kept some too)....to make the dog a bit more obvous.

I sharpened the pic using the unsharp mask. Afterwards I used the blur tool round the light side of the edges of the dog,to remove the obvious pixel disturbance from sharpening. (I only every seem to do this with small, low res pix, like the size we use for uploading.)

I did a bit more brightness, via brightness/contrast.

I did hand work on the eye to clarify it a bit.

.................................................. ....

The above may not be to your taste, and I'm not sure if I haven't over polished your 'old' photograph...

All best wishes,

Caroline
