So, how do you like your new 640? Would you say it prints better photos than the 630 series or seemingly the same, to the naked eye?

Just curious.

There may be some slight improvement but you would have to be looking for it. The 640 is a bit faster and accepts more card slots. I am thanking Santa for the present.

Santa obviously thought you've been a very good fellow

While doing a search on Ebay the other day for "HiTi"...I saw a 630PS up on auction and ended shortly after with the "buy it now" feature.

It appears that Hiti will be releasing 2 more printers in the U.K:

Hi-Touch Imaging Technologies, manufacturer of digital photo printers, will unveil two new models at this years Focus on Imaging Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham (February 22-25). We can give you a preview of what you can expect.

Earlier this year Hi-Touch entered the UK market providing dye sublimation photo printers at an affordable price, enabling many to enjoy the quality of 4 x 6 dye-sub prints for the first time. Hi-Touch has now gone one step further and introduced two new models to the HiTi range. Both models, the 730PL and the 730PS, have the capacity to print 6x8 and 5x7 inch photos and still produce the high quality dye sub 4x6 inch prints.

The printers have been specifically developed to meet the needs of users who require the flexibility of multi-sized prints at an affordable price. The printers, with a quick change of ribbon can also print professional quality black and white photos. Both printers have the facility to print ID photos, greeting cards, bookmarks, business cards and calendars taking flexibility to the next level.

The 730PS is a standalone model supporting 7 memory cards – CompactFlash SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and MicroDrive. It prints a 4x6 photo in just 40 seconds, a 5x7 photo in 60 seconds and a 6x8 in an impressive 70 seconds. To guarantee great photos the 730PS comes with a handheld TFT LCD screen for easy preview and editing. The 730PS can also be used with a PC and is compatible with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP and Mac OS 10.2.

The 730PL model will be available to those who wish to enjoy all the features of the 730PS but do not require the direct printing function. Both models offer 300dpi x 300dpi resolution. The RRP for the 730PS is a competitive £329 and for the 730PL the RRP is just £279.

All HiTi photo printers employ a “Magic Coating” that seals the dye into the paper protecting the image from UV rays, fingerprints and even water. The prints are dry and ready to touch as soon as they leave the printer. All models are accompanied by the excellent PhotoDesiree software package that allows users to enhance and modify images using the easy automatic adjustment facility or the professional editing functions.

Hi-Touch produces a comprehensive range of consumables and accessories to complement the full range of photo printers. The consumables range includes paper for 4x6, 5x7, 6x8 borderless photos and paper for the flexible printing options such as the stickers and business cards. The HiTi accessories range includes Paper and Sticker Cassettes and Memory Card Adaptors all designed to make printing easier and quicker.

Hi-Touch will demonstrate the 730PL and 730PS on stand F15 at the Focus on Imaging Exhibition. This will provide a hands-on opportunity for visitors to experience both the remarkable quality and flexibility of application that can be achieved using the HiTi digital photo printers.

For anyone involved in photography and image processing there is something of interest on the Hi-Touch stand guaranteed to make their printing more convenient, enjoyable and flexible.

Just as a follow up to the above, HITi were being distributed in the UK by Umax but now seem to have their own distribution set up.

A good place for prices is www.redstore.com they are the consumer side of Bluepoint a large trade distributor.

Prices are not too bad, a 630pl is about £105 and the new 640ps is £216, obviously not as cheap as the USA but not bad for rip off Britain!. In fact buying a 630ps and a pack of paper from Redstore is over £20 cheaper than the "special Christmas offer" on HiTi's UK web site!.

For a full listing have a look at http://www.redstore.com/fx/prc_gen.php?manuf_id=478
