Default HiTi 730PS review posted

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_...iti_730ps.html

Just posted is our HiTi 730PS Photo Printer review. Hi-Touch has done it again, this time in a larger 6 x 8" size format. Now you can get "perfect" prints from 4:3 ratio digicam images, no more cropping. Also does 4x6 and 5x7 sizes too.

It should be available soon from the HiTi Store and vendors like B&H Photo Video in NY.

Steve,

Great review.

One question if I may.

Is it possible to switch paper sizes without using up all the ribbon and paper.

i.e. Can you print 6x4, change the paper/ribbon to 7x5, print 7x5, then change the paper/ribbon back to 6x4 etc

Thanks,

Simon

Steve,
Also, since there are currently no 4x6 stickers listed on the consumables catalog, can you use the 640/630 4x6 consumables in the 730?

I believe that the 730 can use the same consumables as the other models.

It adds the capability to use other sizes as well.

Hum, I wonder why they didn't go 8"x10"?

Yes, you can switch ribbon and paper whenever you want.

No, it does not use the same consumables as the other Hi-Ti printers, see this page for what it does use:

I am a newbee so please forgive my ignorance.

I just ordered a 730 and can't wait to start printing. My question is: How do I get a wallet size photo? Edit a 4x6 and cut it ???

Thanks,

Stan :?:

Default 730PS - just bought one

Steve-

Just purchased a 730PS from Hi-Touch.

I own a 640ps and now the 730ps and am completely satisfied.
I originally purchased them based on your reviews.

1) unpacked - hooked up- loaded paper/ribbon- printed
It took all of about 10 minutes.

2) First print was right on - all after it were also.

3) Noticed a slight "darkening" from what was shown on screen.
Went into the software and opened up the "Adjuster" that is built in - tweaked the levels etc. Saved the new color profile. It takes a little experimenting but once set, works just fine.

4) Yes you are correct about each size paper having its own ribbon. If you want to go from 6x8 to 5x7, you must remove and replace both the paper and ribbon. I store the "In use" ribbon in a zip-lock bag to prevent dust from getting on the ribbon (this is VERY important).

5) The paper and ribbon from the 630ps will NOT work in the 730PS. The ribbon feed mechanism is constructed differently. Also Hi-Touch has a clear warning not to do this.

6) They have built a decent web site that has a "forum" section and they respond quite quickly and POLITELY to questions.

7) They seem to think the 6x8 size might fill that "missing" area for print size. Remember when standard prints were 3.5x5.5??

8) Ribbon and paper are least expensive from the internet - local dealer has a healthy markup.

All in All - a very good device.
