Default DPP-sv55 vs HP Photosmart P1000

I recently purchased the Sony printer so that I could print photos that would be of a high quality. What I noticed is that pictures taken with my Sony dsc p7 come out better with my HP printer. The color tones are more realistic. I tried bringing the photo into Photoshop Elements before printing to the Sony but while the screen showed the photo with the correct hues, the acutal print looked overexposed. I tried this with both the auto fine setting on and off. Does anyone know what can be done to get better hues and tones?

Thanks for any help offered.
