I just got a K10D, it is my first digital SLR. I have never used RAW before. I started shooting using the RAW+ setting using DNG. I have Paint Shop Pro XI, but it doesn't open the files. I downloaded GIMP, but when I open them with it they all show up as really small images, when I open the JPEG they are fine. I also have Picassa which opens the DNG files without any issue.

I can't really afford Photoshop. Is there something I need to do with GIMP to get it to work correctly with the DNG files, or should I use the other format for the RAW images?

I also shot a picture with the other Pentax RAW format (PNG I think) and Paint Shop Pro wouldn't open that either.

Thanks for any help.

Use the free UFRaw plugin for the Gimp.

http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/

Here's a download link for Windows installer. If you already have the Gimp installed, it should find it and install the plugin, too.

UFRaw Setup Program for Windows

If you're not using Windows, it's probably already in the repositories for most popular linux distros (just search for UFRaw and you'll see the stand alone program and ufraw-gimp plugin).

You may also want to check out Raw Therapee (another free raw converter):
