getting back onto the subject matter though

what ever software you use, the most important things for video editing are disk space, memory and a fast processor. what can take 20 mins on a new fast pc can take 10 hours or more on an older slower pc.

Dealing with video is so far off the topic for this site that I don't think a few steps further really matters very much. :-)

Dead right!! Dinging about with video on a reasonably fast dual processor reminds me of trying to edit photos on a 80MHz '486. It can be done, but you watch your toenails grow while it goes on.
