Default Why are images viewed in PSE different than Windows viewer?

This is a repost (my post got deleted cause of the backup restore), but I never got any answers. Thus I am trying again :-)

Pictures viewed in Photoshop Elements 2.0 have much less color saturation to them compared to viewing the same picture in Windows Picture Viewer (simple double click on the jpeg in Windows XP). Does anyone know why this is?

It makes photo editing pretty useless to me, since the Windows Viewer is actually much closer to the real colors than PSE is. I did try to calibrate my monitor using the Adobe Gamma utility that came with PSE.

Anyone?

Thanks!
