Default photos transferring twice

I have a Kodak DX7590 digital camera and I normally transfer
pictures to my computer via usb cable. This has worked well for me
for a long time but recently when I attempt this they all download
twice with different image names. I have Windows XP MCE SP3 and I
use Paint Shop Photo Album 5 to download and view pictures.
Also...it seems to take a really long time now to copy the picture to the card after I snap the picture. It has not always done this.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Just guessing, but does your camera have RAW capability? Could you possibly have it set to a RAW+JPEG mode? If so, that would account for the double uploads, and for the increased write times.

Thanks for your suggestion, but it's not the problem. It's possible that the software is the problem but I haven't had time to work on that.

How do the names of the pictures differ? Is it in the suffix, or other part of the filename? It may be that Kodak software is duplicationg the uploads.

Slow write times can occur if a memory card fills up with housekeeping data, such as old empty folders. Try formatting the card.
