Picasa is free and useful for raw viewing. I didn't like the organizer so I now shoot raw+jpg, view jpg quickly and delete first round of unwanted shots. I then go through second round of viewing and pp those that I like.

DOn't know if this makes sense, but seems to be quick enough.

While I have the capability of RAW + jpg (lower quality jpg only), I do it backwards. Don't know if this works only with Nikon NEF or if the software is cross platform RAW compatable. I shoot RAW (NEF) only, saving space without the jpg. Then in their free View NX program, able to view the RAW files, but more important, able to convert only those files I want to, not only to my choice of jpg quality level, but also the option to reduce file size to appropriate pixel (like 800) if I know will be posting online without additional processing.

Will have to try those links for viewing in Windows Explorer because in it's native state, Windows is not able to view RAW. On second thought, that may be a good thing as it keeps me from inadvertently emailing a RAW file, when intending to email the jpg version and the recipient can't open it. Would be fun to send the huge RAW file if they were still on dial-up though.

Tried Picasa when first inflicted on us by Google. Yes, could view, but organization was an issue as noted by a previous poster. It took the way I organized and inflicted its organization on me. I uninstalled it so fast it wasn't funny.

I've used RawTherapee and UFraw. I prefer Sagelight.

After trying out most of the tools you guys mentioned, developing hundreds of RAW's, I think the combination I choose is Lightroom 2.5 (waiting hard for 3) and Photoshop CS3( it'll be CS4 soon ).
