Default Layers

Dont know if this is the right forum for this, if not, moderators please move.
Can anyone recommend a good book for working with Gimp, especially layers. Something other than the Gimp manual that is online, something that maybe has exercise to do of layers and etc. I know there are a lot online tutorials but I'm just not grasping it from them....I do better learning with a book.
Thanks for any suggestions
Dennis

The Second edition of 'Beginning GIMP: From Novice to Professional ... by Akkana Peck' is available from Amazon :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS.../shallowsky-20

Covers from installation to advanced techniques, including layers, and everything in between. All in 584 pages !!

There are other Gimp books listed too, as well as a short video on using layer masks at the same link.

Thank you...I have been to Amazon already and seen that one, another I had picked out, Gimp Bible I believe was the title. But was wondering if anyone has used a book they can recommend.

I use the gimp a lot and have found lots of tutorials on you tube to get me through what I needed to know. Some are better than others

Ah, sorry. I don't use Gimp and just thought that looked suitable for all abilities :-)
