Default Help with buying Adobe Photoshop

I could really use some help. I need to update photoshop from what I had before, which was actually CS2. I really only used it to edit photos, and did not take advantage of what else it had to offer. I am trying to decide now if I should go with Adobe Photoshop 7, or pay extra for CS 5 or 6. I really don't know what other features I would use other than editing photos and videos. The Mac operating system I have now is OS X 10.8.5. Thank you!

While PSE 6 will do the vast majority of what I usually do, I've found that I've been using layer masks more and more, and feel less comfortable with PSE. Perhaps a later version would help, but I don't think so now.

The one thing I love that was introduced in CS5 (I think) is content aware fill. I skipped CS5 and bought CS6 from CS4. It really is wonderful for touching things up, getting rid of telephone lines is much easier and more successful, and the HDR feature is actually useful. The one thing I did when I got it was to watch some of the tutorials that are out there (specifically the class that's on Lynda.com). That introduced me to the new features and how to use them, which went a long way toward making the purchase worth the cost. If you don't make the effort to learn what those features are and how to use them, then it could easily not be worth the extra cost.

G'day PSCH

While Mtngal's suggestion for CS would give you a huge array of stuff in the software, it might be too much - only you know

PSE v10,v11 are very powerful packages [and incl layer masks] and for $100 +/- it might be a good way to go
