Default RAW images changes upon import to Lightroom

So I've been playing around with the in-cmaera HDR feature on my K3. Images look stunning on the camera's monitor. However, when I import them into Lightroom or Photoshop or any other image editing software, the images change to something not even close to what is seen on the camera monitor. Reading up on this I found out that when the image gets imported there is an embedded jpg image that gets displayed and not the image of what was actually shown on the camera monitor. Again this is happening with HDR images shot in RAW. All other non HDR / raw images seem to import fine. Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?

When you think about what is going on with HDR images, it may start to become clear. You take several exposures to capture the full dynamic range of a scene, then combine them into a compressed form which will fit into the standard RGB (or aRGB) color space of 8 bits. This tends to create a low contrast image which looks quite 'flat' unless you do some processing, such as increasing local contrast and saturation. Your camera does this for you when you use the JPEG output, but if you save it as Raw, you have to make the decisions as to how you want it to look.

G'day VT

I like the way you have simplified a potentially hi-tech issue
Well done
