Default help with resolution!!

Ok, when I check the "image size" of all my photos (in photoshop 7) taken at 1600 x 1200, it shows a resolution of only 72.
Is that normal?

I do have photoshop configured to print at 300 ppi
and display at 72 ppi.

If this is not normal then how do I fix it?

Thanks

Long time ago in the world of mac's the monitors were 72dpi.

That ended up a sort of display standard dpi.

Image resolutiuon, screen dpi and printing dpi are 3 different things.

Theres some articles on it around somewhere try googling it.

The "resolution" of 72 is an arbitrary number that has no meaning whatsoever until you print. It seems to have come about in the early Mac days with a bit of confussion between pixels and points. There are about 72 points per French inch before the printed page shrinks.

It is unlikely that you have the display set to 72 ppi. Measure the viewable size of your display, then look at the number of horizontal pixels. I'd bet that it does not come out to 72ppi.

My Canon A60 takes shots at 1600x1200 and they are 180 dpi. Just check the properties of the photo before you edit it and see.
