Default How can I convert .mov format to .avi?

My Kodak digicam can take movies in QT's .mov format, but, for some reason, QuickTime doesn't work on my Windows XP. Thus, I can't veiw movies I take with my camera. I would appreciate a link to a free conerter of .mov to .avi. Thanks.

question-you do have quicktime version 4, 5, or 6 loaded in xp don't you? preferably 6 of course.
if not download version 6 from www.quicktime.com. the quicktime format will be recognized and quicktime will start up and run your movie.

mediaplayer will not play quicktime. only older versions had the codec for it. they sort of had a parting of the ways.

i'm running qt on all 4 of the machines at home 3 xp pro and 1 xp home edition i have quite a few qt's from my 990 no problems running

Yeah, I know all that. I want a converter.

I have d-loaded from QT's site, but it has never worked on my PC. I don't know why. Everything installs correctly (as it seems...) but I start QT and only get audio. The interface of the program won't even show up.

If your system will not download, install and run QT6 should considder that isuue before introduceing new software. 5-6 years ago things like that were normal, but with the GPU manufacter list so slim now issues like that no longer point at compatably issues. Might want to look at:
directX 8.1b current
BIOS update
MB chipset drivers
Video card drivers
Windows updates
and always disable virus protect during download and install.
But then if finding shareware is the main issue good luck
