Okay I am looking for some input here. I just bought the Canon Rebel. With it came its own RAW converter and PS 2.0. Initially I thought it was PS 3.0 and so I bought a how to book to get me started. Now that I have realized my mistake I am thinking that maybe I just should get the 3.0 upgrade and be done with it.

What I am looking for is inpupt specifically from Canon users as to whether or not this is a good thing. I really want to learn to work with RAW and of course PS 3.0 would allow this but I have also seen at least one review that said that you just ended up converting to 8 bit tif image and once done 2.0 was just as useful. Obviously I am very inexperieced with this yet but I don't want to spend a lot of time working with something just to have to relearn how another program when I realize what I have isn't enough. Which way would you reccomend? Thanks for your input.

One of the most interesting features of the upgrade is that RAWs can be input into the Album program and keeping them organized was worth the upgrade for me alone.

I do also have Picassa but it does not do as good a job (IMHO) in importing RAW.

RAW is great to work in for equalizing the picture. Lets say that you have a dark shadow across the subject. With the extra bits you can often soften that shadow and make it look more like what your eyes perceive. Working in 12 bits on selective parts of the picture is a lot more powerful than just converting to TIFF and can make an average picture pop out a lot better.

So if you are planning on setting up a processing flow then get the upgrade and use it. If you don't want to do extra steps then don't worry about it.
