I have a DRebel and the Photoshop Elements 2 that came with it. Can anyone recommend a tutorial that takesmethrough the steps forcontrast masking? I havesome high contrastshots showing good shadowdetail on the camera display screen and onmy monitor. They don'tprint well using the contrast/brightness adjustments in the "enhance" menu. I find the tutorial in the program confusing and can't get the resultsI want. Any ideas?

A little late, but it is easy.

What you are doing is making a black and white negative where the light areas are dark and the dark areas light. Then you merge the two and blur the negative layer.

Layer>Duplicate Layer>OK.
Image>Adjustments>Desaturate
Image>Adjustments>Invert
In layers choose "Overlay"
Filters>Blur>Gausian Blur. Use something between 20 and 80 according to the image and how much effect you want.
Layers>Flatten Image.

You can get a slight halo from the blurred negative layer against the sky, but it isn't bad. It starts looking a little unnatural if you use too little blur.
