Hi all

My GIMP is causing me some problems. On start up I get this error message.

pango warning (recursed) couldnt load font "MS sans serif 8" falling back to "sans 8"

aborting......

Both the runtime and program installed OK on W98SE. I also enabled only true type fonts after the first few times of seeing the error message.

Any help would be appreciated please.

Cheers

Has Gimp ever worked for you on this machine? If so, what changed (software install, software uninstall, upgrades, etc.) between the time when it was working, and when it stopped?

I'm sorely tempted to say, stick another apple in his mouth andmake him sit ina corner.........but I won't .

Are you seeing something like this :

** (gimp-2.0.exe:4294830849): WARNING **: Couldn't load font "MS Sans Serif 8" falling back to "Sans 8".

If so, it would seem you have two options:

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Display properties->Appearance tab, and set all fonts to Tahoma (or any other TrueType font).

OR

Uninstall GTK+ then re-install it without the GTK-Wimp component.

Or possibly try both.

Go here for all potential problems and fixes, including links to everything you need. I think. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/faq.html

Best of luck,

Stevekin.

LOL I was tempted to start with something akin to that too....

Well once I removed the bit from the GIMP he was much happier and is now performing as he should! Thanks mate.

One more question please....if I want to remove a person from a photo and put them in another picture is there a quciker way than the following.

Intelligent scissors- remove small sections (ie with hands on hips there is a bit in the middle). Save (cos for some reasons scissoring again isnt working. Scissor on new image the main outline and copy into new photo.

I cant seem to figure out how to just make the background a transparency so I can move the whited out background too without the final cutting out of the image again.

Cheers

Sorry, I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, I have never seen a Gimp before .

I would be able to tell you this in Photoshop, but that would be no good to you, sorry.

Stevekin.

Hi Steve

Guess me and the gimp are just going to have to figure this one out by ourselves!

Gimp...gimp...where are you now boy?

I think this one had better stop here LOL.

Cheers for your help.

You're welcome Rich, just one more thing.....................................

...............................Just keep a tight rein on the leash, and your gimp should do everything you tell him.

OK, now it's over .
