I took this picture of the fountain at Bryant Park this morning. I only have my gorillapod with me so the camera is pretty much sitting on the floor.

In the holiday season they put stalls all over the park so vendors can sell overpriced merchandise to tourists :). (Ah, that’s OK. Memories are what matters when shopping at these places. It’s nowhere near as romantic buying the same stuff in Chinatown with all the haggling involved...) As a photography enthusiast I think they are a huge distraction -- I just want to take pictures of a quiet park -- but otherwise I think they’re a great idea. They make the season merrier.

They also put an ice skating rink at the center of the park that is free and open to the public. In the distance is the back of the New York Public Library building on Fifth Avenue. (Gothic-style? Victorian-style? I have to look that up. But for now you know what building I’m pointing at...) Rain is forecast for today hence the foreboding clouds.

I think clouds are great, great, great stuff. In a city like New York where the sky is largely obstructed by the tall skyscrapers above, clouds are sometimes the only reason I shoot a landscape scene in the first place. Just like the one you are looking at now.

OK. Enough blabber. I’d appreciate any technical, aesthetic, and whatnot gotchas. Thank you for looking! (And reading!)

Last sunday I was kind of miserable because I hadn't taken one single shot all week, due to the bad weather - all rain and no shine!

But, just as it couldn'y get no worse, I noticed the sky cleared slightly, way out to the west. Realizing this could just be a 'window' in the lowweather-front, I jumped into the car and drove off, against the light patch in the clouds...

Fortunately, it really cleared up for a while, big chunks of heavy clouds flying by as I drove towards a small fishing-village out in the Skerries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skerry

Once in place, I had the opportunity to just set up my tripod, make a few shots befor the weather turned sour again, ½ an hour later...

Cought this panoramashot, comprising of 2 exposures, side-by-side, with the settling sun painting the whole scene in pinkish colors:

For viewers with a smaller monitor resolution: 920 x 347 pixels

One of my favorite spots.
And if you look closely, the small red barn (you can just see the facing red gable, white ring on the wall) to the left in this picture, is the 'big' red barn on the right, in the Panorama-picture on top.

I hope you like it as much as I do (with the exceptions of Bynx, of course, he prefers the wood to a clean seascape) and if you ever come my way I'll show you this place from my own boat - if you have the stomach for it!

Its now 3 weeks ago, when I walked down the waterside to get some training-shots for my HDR-obsession (I just have to explore all the possibilities!). The light-situation wasn't ideal since it was overcast with a heavy cloud-cover, and all I could see was gray-gray-gray, up there.

As I was about to shoot, there was this sudden hole in the cloud-cover and the sun shone through like out of a spot-light. It was so light that I could not picture the hole in the clouds - the contrast was too big, but i had to settle for it's reflection on the water instead.

And if you wonder where this wooden jetty on the left leads to, inshore, you can just take a look at the next picture:

...which shows the space between these two jetty'es. This is a lovely spot I visit often, because there is a lot going on there. I just love the texture of those rocks her.

Now, some old hands might remember a almost similar shot I posted about 2 monts ago. Its this one her:

Hope you enjoyed our little walk-about down the sea-front! All, except Bynx, of cours - he doesn't like seascapes........:p ...but, he might just be interested enough to look at a HDR?

Because of wet and cold, dismal November-weather (it has been raining and sleething all week!), I havn't made one single shot in a week now and feel quite helpless. There is something missing in my daily life. The excitement of coming home with a near full memory-card and upload them onto the PC for scrutiny - Bliss!! :)

The cure for this ailment is to sit down in front of the monitor and going through older shots, try and look at them with 'new eyes' and make alterations, better PP and some new HDR's with my new software, Dynamic-Photo HDR.

This is exactly what I have done here. The first picture, which is a single shot, but with a very mild Orton-effect applied to, has been posted some time ago. Some of you may remember it...

#1 // I can see it now - compared to #2 it is quite dark. But then, about 2 monts ago, I liked the somewhat 'mystery'-look...)

This second picture of the same motive, is a newly rendered HDR made with Dynamic-Photo HDR, is made out of 3 exposures on top of each other.

#2

And - as ususal, the middle exposure of the 3 exposures that make up the above HDR:

Up with the camera, down with the tripod - shoot-shoot-shoot - and we hurry on and back to the car....

At least som motives were there, even though you have to look further and further. The bleakness of the scenes in nature are more discuraging than ever.

A long time since I had a landscape-picture to show. I thought of posting this here shot, which is a panoramic of just 2 shots, side-by-side, but both have been HDR'ed as well... (yea, I know - Chato, It's becom an obsession....!)

This here shot is actually a "spin-off" off the one photo in http://forums.steves-digicams.com/cr...ht-asleep.html where I mention the orange reflections in the windows coming from this very red/orange horizon.

So here it is:

This picture was taken early in the morning, late in September, but its first now that I thought of rendering, stitching and PP-ing it.

For those with smaller resolutions on their monitors:

If you like it - say so.
If you don't like it. Say so too, but tell me why - and don't be shy!
:sport-smiley-018:
