I recently purchased a new Zi8 (black). I feel it is a great little camera however I am experiencing what I believe is deamed as Shutter Roll. When panning in 1080P the picture is very jittery and fuzzy during playback, no matter how slow and steady I pan the camera. It does better on 720/60fps. I use a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8 OS and I-Photo. It is my understanding that the Arcsoft software does not work on a Mac. The Arcsoft icon does show on my desktop but I cannot open it. Is there any way to alleviate this jitteryness? Will the newer version Zi8, which is to be released shortly after the Jan 1 2010 be updated and have this problem solved?

If there is someone here with a ZX1 and a remote control, I'd like to know if the remote will allow for frame-by-frame playback of a video while simply holding down the "forward" button.

On the Zi6, which I've used a lot, this is easy to do on the camera. Start playing back; hit pause; then hold down the forward button so it advances frame after frame. But the Zi6 has no remote control.

On the Zi8, this same sequence doesn't work. Holding down the forward button causes the video to quickly playback... it won't advance one frame at a time. This makes the Zi8 nearly useless for analyzing a golf swing, for example.

I know the ZX1 uses the same remote control as the Zi8, but I'm hoping it can control the camera the same way the keys on the camera work when not using the remote.

Thanks.

Is the kodak Z-980 Camera Being Quietly Discontinued?

Based on a long thread on the www.dpreview.com, Kodak Folder Discussion Group, it appears that Kodak may indeed be quietly discontinuing the 24X optical zoom Z-980.

That would leave the new Kodak Z-950 as the "sort of" flagship of the Kodak camera line pending a January 2010 announcement of a wholly new addition to the product line. That January addition has created a flurry of speculation about what the monumental January announcement will actually introduce.

A persistent, though unverified, rumor is that Kodak will enter the 4/3 marketplace with a completely new upscale camera.

Have a great weekend.

Hi there folks-

I am very impressed with the image quality of the new Kodak Z-950 camera which arrived today (11/05).

Here is a Macro or Close-up sample photo of the famous Kodak P-880 camera. The new Z-950 camera is a camera that features enhanced photo automation, which seems to work rather nicely. For example, I did not have to select Macro Mode I just zoomed in to take this photo and the Z-950 did the rest. That is pretty impressive.

Has Kodak Color Been Changed?

Is it just me? To my eyes it looks like Kodak has very slightly tempered the images that come from the Kodak Color Science Chip. The images from the new Kodak Z-950 are very slightly muted when compared to even the images from the Kodak Z-980 camera that was introduced in March 2009.

Now, if you compare the color output of the Z-950 to older cameras such as the Z-7590, the difference becomes much more obvious. So we will use this image taken at Disneyland as our "base image." The base image seems to represent the new Kodak color implementation.

Notice also that the sharpness of this image and its beautifully smooth and even exposure is also slightly different from previous Kodak camera. IMO, Kodak might have suddenly become much more willing to compete head to head with the other camera manufacturers. That is good news! You realize of course that the Z-950 design was evolved to compete with the Fuji F-70EXR, the Canon SX-200, and the Panasonic ZS1/ZS3 cameras. That, I feel is another, is another very positive move for Kodak.

Tell us what you think, please. Has "Kodak Color" begun to evolve and change?

In our continuing effort to get a little more information exchange and activity in this folder, here is an opportunity to get you out and sharing a bit about your hometown.

I will start off and hopefully many of you will choose to join in and to share some details of your home town with all of us. My husband and I are retired and we live in a small town of just 6,600 people along the Oregon Coast.

Crab Fishing and Easter Lily productions are what drive the economy of our little town. So today, I have posted a Crab Boat heading out of the harbor in search of Dungeness crab.

Be sure to join the fun and share a bit of your home town with us.

Have a great day.

Folks,

Interestingly enough, some of Kodak's older cameras are still producing great image quality and are now a real bargain on the used camera market.

I am sure you are wondering which Kodak cameras still really have that, "go for broke" image quality? Well, look for the Z-740, the Z-760, the Z-7590, and the Z-1012 cameras. E-Bay is a good source in the used camera market, as is www.keh.com, wwwbhphotvideo.com, and www.adorama.com.

You may indeed find a bargain out there!

As some of you know I follow Kodak cameras very closely. It looks like the new 12mp Z-950 camera has been dubbed the replacement for the highly popular Z-1012 camera that ceased production during the spring of 2009.

The new Z-950 feature advanced automation and it has already received some excellent reviews, and it seems nicely positioned for the Christmas 2009.

Have a great day.

Kodak has posted Easyshare ver 8.1 on their website for download.

This update is important for those of us that were or are running Windows 7 64bit Operating Systems. Easyshare will now WORK with Windows 7 64bit.

Like previous versions it does best with a newer system with adequate horsepower.

At any rate, it loads stuff from my Z950 about 5 times faster than any previous camera or version. I am pleased!

I no longer have to yank the bloody card.
