I've ordered my FZ35 and it should be here in a day or two. I'm also getting a Slave flash that has 4 trigger modes. There are several flash modes on the FZ35 plus the Red-Eye reduction mode. Does anyone know which is the correct timing trigger for these modes.

Also, Does the Camera use any part of the flash in the AutoWhileBalance mode.

Do the P&S cameras really adjust the power level in these small built in flash units to match the camera settings. The External flash I have contains 8 power levels so is there a table I can use to calculate the exposure settings. This flash is VERY similar to the 580ex. I would also plan on using it in bounce mode to get away from the direct on.

Any one want to recommend some good reading on Flash Photography. My kids are always looking for a good book to get me for Xmas.

I would like your thoughts on the 430 EX II

Hi,

I have a Canon XSi and the f1.8 50mm lens so far is my favorite (I only have the 50 mm and the kit lens).

When the family comes into town for the holidays I'd like to have a bounce flash so I'm not postponing all photoshoots to the afternoons!

Now, I hate asking for information to be spoon fed to me, but if any of you guys can provide some tips or links to websites which comment on the 430 EX II flash, I'd greatly appreciate it. I only ask b/c having a 4 month old around here has greatly limited my ability to mess around online. I've already been over the threads where some of you recommend the 430 EX II, that's where I got the idea for it. I'm fine with the mid 200 price range.

Do you know of any good reviews that explain GN and TTL and all that stuff? Is it relatively straightforward to operate or will I need to study up on the manual for a while. I'm obviously a newbie to photography but I have a decent grip on the manual features of my camera. If you guys could kick me in the right direction I'd be greatful.

Thanks,
John

Hey guys,

I am a newbie to DSLR Photography and I needed some help. I just bought the Yong Nuo YN460 flash from eBay. I connected it to Nikon D60. The flash does work and it does go off but for some reason, the shutter speed is still the same as if there was no flash and the results with the flash and without the flash are identical!

This is in both the P mode and the Auto. Basically, the flash fires but the shutter speed is still long so the flash doesn't do anything for the picture.

What am I doing wrong here? Any help will be appreciated!

Hello guys,

I have a Nikon D300. Was fooling around with the built-in flash. Purposely took photos of my dog that was backing a window. Wasn't an intense amount of light in the room but there was "enough" (a little diffuse sunlight.). Any how I did get the dreaded red-eye using the built-in flash. Tried reducing the output. Didn't really help. Why am I getting red-eye and how would I avoid it in this kind of shooting scenario?

I tried setting the built-in flash (sorry, I know this forum is for "external flash") to "square w/ flash symbol (lighting bolt)" (displayed on LED display on top right) and then the one that looks the same but with an eye symbol on it. Assumed that would remove the red-eye. It didn't.

Haven't even begun using my SB800 flash. Would Joe McNally's new book on using Speedlight flash help a complete flash novice? I think it's called "Hot Shoe Diaries".

Thanks.

Looking for an excellent/powerful flash to mount on the brand new Pentax KX DSLR camera. Is it P-TTL technology or something else? I am really not sure.

Perhaps, NHL, our resident flash expert can help out here.

Ideally, I would like to find a powerful and software upgradable Metz Flash for this project. That would be just about the ultimate, high power solution.

All suggestions appreciated. This project should be a lot of fun. We promise updating reports as we move along with this search for the ideal flash.

Thanks in advance for your expert, Pentax, flash help.

Have a great weekend.
