I cannot believe that they build millions of digital cameras and they all have the same old pressure-button trigger. Although I realize there are a very few cameras out there with electronic releases, there is no real choice.
What I need is to be able to choose between cameras that let me connect either a pressure transducer, a proximity sensor, a photocell trigger, a trip release trigger, a wireless remote trigger, an ultrasonic trigger, etc. This can easily be provided by a generic electronic trigger with published specs. Then you also have a whole new industry - people building their own electronic triggers, or manufacturing triggers for others. Obviously, one of those triggers could be your usual finger-pressure button.

Nikon Capture NX2 software

I have the Nikon D5000 and I have the free 60 day trial of NX2. At first I was not crazy about it, and I could see why as it seemed a little complicated to work. Most people seem to like Adobe Lightroom 2 better.

Well after a couple of hours, I got a better handle on it, and I have to say that I like it. I still don't know how to do certain things like make a person in the photo black and white while the rest is color. But for touching up photos quickly....adding a little more color, etc. it does a very good job. I am not one who wants to spend 30 min per photo on software changing and playing with all the effects. But being able to click on an area and just affect an area, is a nice feature. I also like it's a lot cheaper than Lightroom 2.

Anyone else have it? What are your impressions?

R72 filter question

I'm getting ready to buy a Hoya R72 filter and was wondering if anyone around here uses one. My question is whether I can use a larger filter and add step-up rings with one (I do this with a circular polarizer, but extra natural light isn't an issue). I'm trying to decide if I should buy a filter the size of the biggest lens I think I might want to use it on (very expensive and would be for a lens I'd rarely use it on, I think) and then use step-up rings for use with the smaller lenses, or buy one the size of the lens I think I'd use it on most and forget about using it on anything larger or smaller (I can't decide which of the two most likely lenses I'd use most, and there's another one I sure would like to use also).

Also would the size of the step up would make a difference - I could be tempted to buy a 77mm filter but I'd need to get one more ring, one 49 to 77). I'm concerned about whether step-up rings, especially ones with that much size difference, would allow natural light to leak in somehow, and whether that would affect the image quality (I've already read about making sure you use the viewfinder cover since the shutter speeds are so long).

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Ok, so I've got a canon 7D and am now looking to improve the audio I record.

I know the H4n recorder is highly recommended, but is it better than using a shotgun mic for example?

By using a shotgun attached to the hot shoe, is the sound recorded simultaneously with my video on my memory card? Do I have to marry sound and video in fcp?
I'm not so good at all this audio stuff unfortunately, so I need some help choosing the best microphone for a travel kit for my 7D.

Thankful for any suggestions!

I just got official word from customer support at Datacolor today (Nov 6, 2009) that they would not be supporting Windows 7 with their popular legacy Spyder2Pro product.

I'm hoping this post saves others the frustration of trying to find software / drivers that work with Windows 7.

As for me, I need a new calibration tool - but I'll never spend another penny with Datacolor/Spyder. :demon3:

I would not recommend the Nikon CF DC2 camera case for the Nikon D5000

I went to Nikonusa and went shopping for a camera case for my new Nikon D5000. Yes I could of purchased a generic case, but since I bought the Nikon camera, I wanted a Nikon case. Their web site stated the CF DC2 was the case designed for the D5000, so I ordered it on line, since no one in my area seem to carry it.

I was surprised to find that there was no pocket on the outside or any net with a zipper inside to hold an extra battery or brush to clean the lens. It's just a soft case with a velcro to keep the case closed and it cost $50.00. Nikon does not seem to even include a strap is on their cases.

The design of the case allowed your camera strap to go through so you would not have a camera case and camera strap to deal with. Ok, that may be helpful since I have had other camera cases, where when you put the camera in the case and you push your camera strap in the bag, at times the case strap went in my accident. Thankfully my 55-200 lens also fits in the case as well. It seem the 28-200 would fit as well, so at least they made it deep enough. It just seems the nice camera cases that I expected from Nikon was not there. They took a short cut by making an inexpensive case, that is over priced, and offers no helpful features. :( At least the material seems to be strong enough and it should hold up well...as long as the velcro keeps the bag closed.

Hi.
I just purchased an Aiptec MPVR DZO_V58; no A/V leads, no battery, no disk and I'm having difficulty finding a supplier for these items. I could make up the leads, if I had a sketch of the connections. The A/V IN is easy enough to make. It's mono, I think, so a three way jack connected to RCA red and yellow, but how? The video out is a little more complicated since the camera outputs via a mini USB, but still simple enough to make if I knew the connections.
Can anyone help me with this. Maybe someone has a broken camera and wants to sell the accesories.
Any help/advice would be very welcome.
