Hi everyone,
A question and your input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a sony A-700 DSLR and Sony software (RAW editor). Recently changed to a new computer, now running Vista 64 bit. Attempts to install the software result in major crashes and nonworking software.

Is there a way to get the sony software back online on a Vista 64 bit system ? Otherwise, can you suggest alternative software that will run normally under Vista 64 bit?

Thanks in advance !
TT

On my a300, and now the a700, the cameras, when in AF, never choose multiple AF points when using the OVF.
This is not the case when using Live View on the a300 (Of course the a700 does not have live view). In LV, the a300 will choose multiple focus points when in AF - you can see the green squares (I have seen up to 4 at once) light up. Like I said above, when in OVF, only one focus point will be selected always on both cameras.
I played today w/ the a330 ans a230, and also a Canon Xs and 7D, and a Nikon D90. All of them, including the Sonys, chose multiple focus point when in AF mode through the OVF.
Any "explanation"? Mostly out of curiosity.

I am looking for a new lens to add to my arsenal mainly for shooting in lower light situations (in door in crappy lighting etc) with an A700/A200.

I have the kit 18-70mm and a 28-300 f/45.-6.3

The 28 - 300 serves me well and does what I need it to do 90% of the time its the other 10% when the lighting is bad that I need something faster lower f/s........

What I have figured out is that I need the range to be to at least to 135mm and that it needs to be f/4.0 or lower at the max length.

I have been looking on line at:
Tokina 50-135mm Preo DX f/2,8
Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 EX DG HSMII

Anyone used either of these on a Sony, any other lenses I should be looking at Budget was $500 to $600 when I first started looking but is now at max $800.

Also anyone have any insider info that would lead them to believe these lenses might go on sale on black Friday or closer to Christmas?

Thanks in advance.

Just want to share my Joy with everyone. I just got the SAL2470Z for my A900 with the HVM58AM Flash. I've been using it for a couples day and the pictures are awsome coming from the SAL2470Z.

The flash is another item that i really love. the ability to rotate at any angle you want is just perfect for wedding photography.

On another note, just hate the fact that SONY decided to put HDR on there A850 and not the A900.

I own both A700 and A900. I also have the SAL1680CZ and the SAL2470Z. Now should i sell one of them and get the A850?

I read the A330 "Date Stamp" question of several weeks back, and understand that the camera may not have the capability of putting the time and date in a .jpg. I've been asked to submit some photos with time and date in the image. What printing application(s) will pull the data from the EXIF and include the info as is available in many point-and-shoot cameras?
Thanks!

it seems like a very cool system, you buy the single base lens (composer, muse, or control freak) and you can buy multiple add-ons (which are VERY reasonably priced) like soft focus, fish eye, super wide angle, etc.

But... it almost seems too good to be true. I want to know if anyone has any experience with them or their products? also, if you look on their gallery on their page, all of the images have artistic blur or focus around the edges.... which is very cool for certain things, but i also wanted to know if they will focus and take pictures like a standard lens?

Thanks!

Okay so in july i got my first and only SLR camera for my birthday (Sony Alpha DSLR-A330) with a DT 18-55mm and a DT 55-200mm lens. It was awesome, until i took a trip to Puerto Rico. It was hot and humid outside and cold and dry inside. I took my camera outside to take pictures and the front of the lens, the screen, and the viewfinder all instantly fogged up, but after several minutes it went away, or i could wipe it down. This is when my issue started. When i got back inside i looked through my viewfinder and it was still blurry so i once again wiped down the front lens, the viewfinder, and the LCD screen but it was still blurry. i thought might just be the lens, so i switched it for my other lens (which hadn't been outside, and was not foggy) and i had the same problem. Thus i figured it must be a mirror or lens on the inside of the camera, so i took the lens off and looked inside and everything seemed clean and clear (i am too afraid to touch anything inside of there haha). So, what do you think is the issue, or is there anything i can do to fix it? It still takes pictures beautifully but i can't see what i'm snapping pictures of very well. Thanks!!

Hey all,

I've been struggling with what I've started calling a "bronzing" effect that I've been dealing with for a while, more than a year while.

In short, Most of the portraits I've done in studio type of lighting have had copper tones that shouldn't be there, heck, I've been getting it on some rather fair-skinned people of Irish decent.

It's a rather deeply saturated, almost metallic-looking type of orange that just should not exist. Oddly enough, it's only prevalent on skin tones that I'm aware, and most noticeable under studio lights.

I had hoped that the problem would be resolved once I upgraded from the Alpha 100 to the Alpha 350, it wasn't.

This week I started wracking my brain trying to figure out the source of the issue. My first hunch was the CCD vs CMOS. I had taken some shots in a studio lighting class that showed no such color cast while using a Nikon, as they didn't have a flash adapter for the wireless trigger available for Sony at the time.

But then I remembered that Nikon body was actually using the same sensor as my Sony. Then I remembered the only thing that has continued on from the a100 to the a350, the original kit 18-70 3.5-5.6 Lens.

Today I set up some studio lights, took a number of shots (5) with each of my 3 main lenses, the 50mm f/17, the 75-300 f/4.5-5.6, and the kit.

The kit was visibly off-color on the back of the LCD. I pulled the images into Phase One Capture One 5 Pro, and did more checking, and found the color temperature between the 50 and the 75-300mm were fairly stable and fairly similar, but the kit was a huge margin difference.

I measured the Kelvin to be 200+ degrees cooler, while the magenta/green tint was oddly enough 4-5 to the green side. One must remember, Capture One maxes out at 50 on each side of the tint slider, this is a difference that equates to 10% of the range!

Does anyone know what the heck is wrong with this lens?
Has anyone ever seen anything similar to this before?

Thanks,
Dan O.

Hi everybody,

I will soon be buying my second DSLR. My previous machine was a Pentax but because I didn't buy much brand-name merchandise for it, I am pretty much free to play the field again. That said, the Pentax Kx is attractive and I was going to stick with Pentax, except...
...that I got this KM AF 50/3.5 macro lens the other week... it was really cheap at the time, so I purchased it assuming that I would just sell it if I didn't use it. That said, the online reviews of this lens are quite positive indeed. How good is it, really? Is the fact that I already have it sufficient reason to jump ship for Sony?

Need help deciding the new lens for A700

Hi Folks,

I am new to this forum and Sony Alpha community.
I had a A350 with kit lens for few months and loved the camera. Now I am moving to A700 very soon. I am new to the DSLR community and can use some help from experienced users on deciding the lens to go with my A700.

- How good is the SAL18-200 zoom lens for everyday zoom lens use? I can get the SAL18-200 for 50$ more. Is it a good buy ? or should I buy some other zoom lens and buy just the body for now?

- I need a prime lens for mostly portraits and general purpose use but I also like to do occasional macro photography. Lets say 80% portrait and 20% macro. I am confused between SAL50F14 and SAL100M28. I cannot buy both, I need to decide one. Which one should I go for? I am personaly more inclined towards SAL100M28, but I am not sure weather it will be a good lens for landscape/portrait photography since it is a macro lens.

Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. I am going to buy the new camera and lens by next week.

But I must admit that all the talk of the A550 is really making me wonder. I have seen some High ISO shots and I was really impressed. Plus even though I do not have live view, it can come in handy. And I may be wrong, but I think that I have read that the kit lens that comes with the A550 is pretty good as well. Im using an A100 now so either will be a major step up. So I was just trying to get some more thoughts. I know the A550 is very new and we will get more info as time goes by but I know some of you got some thoughts already.

Can anyone tell me how I can get a Sony A200 worked on. The rear LCD screen is not working. The camera got soaked by accident the other day during a major working firefighting operation. The pictures taken by the camera come out 100% but the LCD screen just displays lines and dots and such.

Also any idea how much a new screen would cost to be put in?

Also I live in Central VA near Charlottesville in case their is anyone in the area that could do it without sending it half way around the world to get it repaired.
