Allow me to introduce myself, my name is, Jerry Johnston. I was born three months premature weighing one pound 12 1/2 ounces with Cerebal Palsy (CP) that affects my left arm and leg. Needless to say, I am very blessed and love doing photography, even though hold a 70-200mm is a challegene. I would like to know instead of using on camera flash (a Canon 550 EX), this there a way I can get good off camera lighting when photographing a subject? I have an off camera shoe cord etc. Any advice would be great.

Off camera flash is very effective just as bounce flash is very effective. Usually most folks use specialized brackets to use off camera flash, rather than hand holding the flash unit. Here is a bounce flash sample.

You can try Strobist http://strobist.blogspot.com/ for ideas.

The best thing is to experiment. You can mount the flash on a off camera shoe and tripod or clamp it somehwere. Having multiple flashes can be fun too.
