Default flash cross compatibility

Can I use a nikon flash with a canon DSLR and control with a 3rd party radio transmitter? I assume I would have to use manual mode on the flash because it won't "talk" to the camera, but could the camera at least trigger it to go off?

If the radio receiver trigger module only has the center pin contact it should be enough to flash the Nikon Speedlight in manual mode. The center pin on the cameras and flashes is ISO defined as the trigger contact. The radio transmitter would be on the Canon DSLR of course.

Yup, should work in manual mode. That's how I trigger my non-Canon flash off-camera from my Canon DSLR.
