G'day Sarah

Slave flash guns are used as extras to your in-camera flash or another external flashgun

The slave-trigger options usually are to fire the external flash after it 'sees' 2, sometimes 3 mini flashes from the camera's flashgun

Every built-in flash fires multiple times for every photo taken
1st flash is a small flash for metering & distance calculations
2nd flash is often the Red-Eye Reduction pre-flash
3rd flash is the 'big' one for taking the actual photo

and these 3 flashes are so qwik & close together our eyes just see one "flash-bam and it's done ma'm"

Try putting the new gun [ie the di466] across the room from the camera
- experiment with slave mode-1 > does the 466 flash back at you?
- experiment with mode-2 > does the 466 flash?

So your new 466 can now be used as 2 sorts of flash - a big extra flash on camera, or as a 2nd extra flash away from the camera to light up other parts of the scene

Hope this helps a bit
