So, I was at a carshow this weekend...and some of the shots turned out awesome when using fully automatic mode, with the exception of the no flash setting.

But when i go to 100% automatic mode, and if/when flash is needed, the pictures turn out toooooooo :?dark. Am i dong something wrong when i turn all settings to auto mode? I hate it when pics used w/flash in automode turn too dark.

Hope to get some hints here...

The only thing I could think of is maybe you were outside the rated range of the flash unit? It's rated up to 14 feet at the wide end, meaning the range at the tele end is something less than that- maybe around 9-10 feet is typical.

You may need to do one of two things. Either dial in some flash exposure compensation on the + side (flash exposure compensation, not regular exposure compensation)if all your flash shots are looking underexposed or, if you need to cover a larger distance you are going to need to invest in a separate shoe mounted flash.
