Im thinking of buying the Fuji FinePix A800which is currently on sale for $198.

Is this camera any good? Is the picture quality good?

Im looking for a small compact camera, that runs on AA batteries and uses XD memory cards (mainly because my other camera uses them).

depend exemplar and photographer brainz and/or hands.
looks like not only differs from F-xx in downclocked hw and/or specially simplified logic, but - matrix, "not good to use in "Big[F-xx's or SD-xxxx's]Brother" cameras.
steady shoot + correctrly exposed sensor - nice result.

p.s. a bit overpriced, 4 my op, but if you can't ger Fxx(due to lack of fund and or something orher(like prorietary power-Hate) - nice cam.
weak video - rarely useb by tgt groups(even epecialy marketed (and(very good really !! working) 4 young family
but sequence shoot and/or historgamm - can be useful.

p.p.s. because can't look in firmware(aka "engineer[ing]") menu on fuji(need service manual to do this(unavailable 4 me)) - can't prove my "heavvy remapped-sensor model"-hypotesis.

look at A820 thread at PBASE http://www.pbase.com/cameras/fujifilm/finepix_a820
(A820 - a retweaken RP and [a bit] simplified optics w/larger zoom(4x)
- results vary, but nice.
w PASM mode - can be even better.
