I occasionally read comments from individuals giving advice about never, never, never use digital zoom. Now I realize that digital zoom is not perfect, but maybe it's not quite as bad as some people suggest. As an example, here is a picture of the remains of an old barn just down the road from where I live. I set the zoom to 50 mm on my S9000 so that I could take this "normal" perspective photograph:

Then, from the same position, I used the digital zoom to get this photograph of the same old barn. It has been cropped slightly and straightened. But for a 600 mm digital zoom image I don't think it is too bad:

I have not and never thought of using digital zoom at all, but your picture tells me I should try it one day.
