Faulty Fuji S8000fd

Hi all
I have just bought a used S8000fd with a problem, I was hoping someone might have an idea how to fix it.
When I switch the camera on, the green power light comes on and stays on, but nothing else happens. There is no clicking or buzzing, the lens doesn't try and move out and the LCD remains off. Any ideas? I actually have another S8000 which works fine and the sequence of operation seems to be green light on then off, almost immediately, some beeps and then lens moves out and LCD powers up. Do yo think that it could be a lens problem which stops the camera initialising properly.
