Default New to the HS10 .. Could use some tips and advice!

Hey everyone, as you probably noticed .. I'm new to photography and stuff but I bought the HS10 about a week ago and I could really use some advice on manual settings and stuff, since I know almost nothing about shutter speed/ISO/white balance apart from what everyone says
So yeah I've seen some pretty crazy pictures that people have posted, I'm good with everything set to automatic settings, zoom, focus, video mode and everything but like I mentioned I'm bad with the rest of the manual stuff ;p
So if anyone has some advice, or a link to somewhere that explains these things and could teach me I would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

You can play with the camera settings here http://dryreading.com/camera/index.html and see what the results are instantly.
