Default s6500fd batteries

My camera keeps reporting batteries are flat. To check things out I tried it with some brand new Duracell Alkaline batteries. It stayed on for a couple of minutes and then locked up. Had to switch off and then on again.

Also each time I change the batteries the date needs resetting.

Is there an internal battery? Does this indicate this has failed?

If so then I presume a replacement is difficult?

G'day JG

Firstly - welcome to Steve's > there are lots of enthusiastic people here as well

As to the 6500 .... seems most likely that a small fault has developed in the battery circuit department ... it sounds a bit like my old Fuji S5000 > excellent camera but when the on/off switch started to cut off the camera it was a case of "uneconomic to repair" .... bugga

Could be time to look at the HS10 or HS20

I wonder if it might help to change the setting from lithium or was it Ni-Mh to alkalaine or whatever, depneding on what your batteries actually are? You can do this on the 6500 I swear. It might be trying to read the electrons of a lithium battery when you have an alkaline or vice versa. It cant not help either way to have a look!

As for the time n date issue, yeah they had tiny cell batteries welded to the motherboards. they go after about 4 years. So I always had to put the time and dat fresh into mine each time........ I forgot so many times.... much to my frustration afterwards. Apaert form that, excellent bridge camera. sweet. Hope you get it sorted Jaygee42
