That e-mail I see from Fuji regarding my inquiry about compatible flash units indicated that the camera is compatible with most standard flash units. It indicated that "some" camera-specific units would not work. I have a flash that has a Pentax dedicated module, and it works fine. On a Pentax camera the module works in TTL mode, but on my 9000 it just works as a standard automatic flash. So if you can find a macro flash with the features that you want, it will probably work.

I've used my old Canon T70 flash (277T speedlite) withmy S9500no probs, even though the Canon's manual suggests it's only good for its own cameras. I have to confess I was afraid something might blow when I connected it, you can never be sure when mixing technologies.

The Sunpak DX-12R ringflash works fine. There's no auto mode so you have to experiment with the exposure a bit.
