Saw this on a walk through a local natural area. I just wonder how they came up with the price of the fine:O

It's just a nature walking trail, I think the reason for no jogging/running is to not disturb the wildlife.

It depends on the wildlife. In bear country, they don't want runners or joggers because they travel faster and surprise the bears who can react badly. Hikers travel slower, so the bears won't be surprised and will leave peacefully.

A couple of years ago, I was backpacking in bear country. The park rangers made it very clear that we should make lots of noise while we were hiking so the bears would hear us comming and leave long before we got to them.

I used to whistle when hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

My then girlfriend told me it was getting annoying.

I told her why I was whistling.

She started whistling.
