You're lucky to have a silver fox visiting. They, like many of these critters, respond well to a little kindness without becoming too trusting of humans. (OK, raccoons can get to be pests.)

In NM last season there was a skunk family that liked a culvert under part of the driveway. When I walked out at night they would alert with raised tails, then talking to them would relax them. They enjoyed a few peanuts in shells and were very docile (and photogenic.)
