I am looking at purchasing a cheap video camera so that I can record things like my son's games and school events. I don't need super video quality, just something to be able to watch again in the future. I was wondering how well the H2 and S3 compare to thevideo of a real video camera since if it where comparable, I think I would opt for the H2 or S3 instead of the real video camera. I know one big distinction is that I am limited on storage with the digicams, but what are some other considerations? I am guessing that battery life may be one as well. I assume that even if I have a 2 GB card and am able to shoot 25-30 minutes of video, the batteries might have other plans. Anyway, what do you all think?

With an S3 is you can get only 16-18 minutes out of one 2 GB card, but the image quality is truely excellent. It competes quite well with a real comcorder. You can then recompress such videos on a PC down to 200-250 MB with almost no quality loss. With the Sony H2 you can put significantly more minutes on a 2 GB card, but the quality is also significantly lower. Also a 2 GB memory stick for the H2 costs significantly more than a 2 GB SD card for the S3.
