Have you tried pulling the battery out for an hour or so?

I've done that a few times with my 5700. The only thing that happened was the camera warning me not to do that while it continued to write to the card.

At the worst, I have only heard of this action corrupting the data on the card, not damaging the camera in any way.

If Bob's suggestion doesn't work, try switching the cf card and see if it turns on. You may have to leave the battery out longer than an hour -- say, over night -- to get it to clear the internal memory.
