Default scanning 35mm film and megapixels equivalents

If I have a flatbed scanner with a 35mm film adapter which says it can scan 35mm film at 1200 x 1200dpi. Am I right in thinking that if 35mm film is 2.4cm by 3.6cm - giving an area of 8.64 sq.cm or 1.34 square inches. Then I will get the equivalent of 1200 x 1200 x 1.34 = 1.93 megapixels when scanning 35mm with this scanner? Or is my math completely off??

Sounds about right. Some scanners will do 2400. The Nikon transparency scanners do about 3200-5000 I think.
