Default Night Picture taking

Tonight the moon comes up over the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC. What is the best way to get night pictures? I have a Minolta 7i.

This is in principle, as I've never visited the USA.

I'd try a nice steady tripod, plus shutter release, then try bracketing exposures at around the 1/4 second mark (ISO 100). You'll need to strike a balance between a slightly burnt out moon and no shadow detail.

The best conditions I've found were where the moon was backlighting the clouds.
