I'm in the market for a lightweight bag to carry while I'm out for the day while on vacation. I'll leave my main bag back at the hotel, so I need something smaller and lighter to carry a dSLR with lens attached, one additional lens, extra battery, and maybe misc items such as cellphone, passport etc...

I'm really interested in the MAXPEDITION bags, although I realize they're not made for photography I wonder if anyone has used it as one. If not, I think I'd prefer a sling type so it's out of the way when not in use.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

The Maxpedition bags look nice, but I think you might be better served by a dedicated camera bag, since they have supports, padding, and compartments for all your 'stuff', such as batteries, memory cards, etc. I have both Tamrac and CaseLogic bags..both are very good. Search their sites and find a case that would fit your camera, lens, and gear requirements.

I have both Tamrac and a Lowepro bags and find both manufacturers put out excellent quality bags. I also prefer a bag designed for cameras, because of the padding (thoughI have seen several very nice do-it-yourself padding jobs).

The biggest thing you need to decide is what style you want - over the shoulder, fanny pack or cross-shoulder - there are advantages and disadvantages to each style. If you can, take what you want to carry to a camera store and ask them to see if your equipment will fit.
