Default lens hoods

I am new to dslr. I know zoom lens come with hoods? Should I keep the hood on for all pictures? Do I put it on a certain way, like the part that stiks out the furthest on the top?

I would use the hood in and outdoors. It will not effect iq. But it could prevent unwanted light form lights indoor also. I am not sure about the tamron, but you may be able to flip the hood upside down and connect it for simpler storage.

You can't put a hood on wrong unless you force it, and you should use the hood whenever you use it. Lens hoods prevent flare from strong sources of light. Outside, that would typically be the Sun, but indoors, it could be any light source.
