Default Lense question

I have a SLR camera body with various lenses. I am considering buying a similar brand DSLR camera body. Will I be able to use my old SLR lenses on the DSLR body?

That depends on the lenses and the body.

Any lens made for Pentax SLRs should work fine on current Pentax dSLRs, with varying levels of functionality.

Any lens made for the Minolta AF mount should work fine on any Sony dSLR without a hitch, except for some early Sigma lenses.

Any lens made for Canon's EF lens mount should work fine with any Canon dSLR.

Nikon's lens mount went through a few iterations to get where it is today, so some older Nikon lenses may not have full functionality with all Nikon dSLRs.

When Olympus switched over to making DSLRs, they ababdoned their older lens mount in favor of the 4/3 mount, so older Olympus lenses won't work without an adapter, and even then with limited functionality.

What lenses do you have?
  • The lens is the thing.
  • 'Full Frame' is the new 'Medium Format'.
