Default Vivian Maier, street photographer and mystery

I recently came across this story, which is a fascinating one. In 2009 while researching a history book on Chicago, John Maloof came across a large collection of mostly negatives at an auction sale. What he eventually came across was a fascinating story about a woman no one had ever heard of. This woman was Vivian Maier. She immigrated from France in the 1930s and worked in sweat shops. She then worked as a care-taker and nanny. Somehow she managed to come up with enough money to travel the world from Egypt to Bangkok shooting photographs. Much of her work is street photography from Chicago, NYC and Florida. She died without even developing many of these 10s of thousands of negatives.

some of her photographs are just amazing, simply amazing.

Really interesting. Thank you for posting it.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's. Visited Chicago in the 60's. I recall those clothing styles, the life in large cities of that era.

She captured it well.
