Default Shots from Canon SX40

Here are some shots from a trip I just took. I am a novice so if these aren't great shots, please give information on how to improve.

The shots are ok. It's always helpful, to everyone, when you state what settings
the camera used to take them. There are EXIF (data) within the shots you can
decipher using many viewing programs. ACDSEE should have this ability. And the
camera itself tells what settings it used. I'm replying to inform you of a feature that
would help, almost certainly , by combining several shots to make the low, mid, and
highlights look balanced.

Those are the problems, as I see them, in the shot(s) with the bright light and black
background. here a previous post I've copied that you can work from.

I read today that the SX40 can take 3 (or 5) shots and then combine
them so as to take the
lowlights, mid tones, and highlights, from each exposure combine them
and get a better photo than by taking 1 shot.

This isn't the 'pick 1 of 5' choices but actual combining of multiple shots
which astronomers often use to get full , good , exposures of bright
objects with dim ones.

This is a really fabulous feature requiring, I should think, a stable platform
because picture elements have to line up.

The camera does this feature and I think it's great.

IF you are interested in this process PLEASE consider starting a thread
and I'll visit and try to contribute. I don't have to time , now, to start
and see how a thread on this topic would go.

I have a lot of experience in optics and photometrics with lab
instrumentation. It would be nice to share it somewhere
