Default Epson R300 Printer and Canon Powershot G3 - Compatible ??

Have just bought a new Epson R300. Very impressed so far - great memory card function, superb pictures etc.
BUT, (stupidly) bought the printer assuming that it's compatible with Pictbridge (allows camera to be plugged directly into printer and prints made via cameras LCD) via my Canon G3 (fairly recent, high spec cam). It seems not. Admittedly should have checked but was told that Pictbridge is compatible with most Canon's.
Does anyone know if there's any way round this ? - anything (e.g software) which magically makes it compatible ??!! It was one of the main reasons for buying the Epson and it's a shame not to have it.
Also, there was a serious shortage of R300-M's in the UK so I've had to make do without the monitor (adding to the above problem). Anyone know if US / Asia Pac monitors - Epson code C12C860013 are universally compatible ??
Thanks in advance.

The Canon G3 is DirectPrint capable with Canon printers, but not anything else and does not support PictBridge.. Canon released a firmware upgrade to the G5 to include PictBridge compatibility, but has no plans for such an upgrade to the G3.
