Default SLT and transparent LCD

I was just looking at the specs for the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III FF camera.
I find it interesting that they use a transparent LCD overlay in the viewfinder.

I used a Canon 7D for a few months soon after they came out and liked the responsiveness of the AF system but I ended up keeping my Sony gear.

Not knowing about the transparent LCD overlay in previous Canon models makes me wonder if Sony was trying to use the same principles as Canon but just with a different approach when the came out with their SLTs.

Using the Sony A850 I do appreciate a big bright viewfinder more then the A77 and Nex-7 EVFs. It seems that with the approach that Canon took you get the combination of both.

The new Canon seems like a great camera but the price seems to be a little too expensive. $3500.

It also looks like Canon has adapted a Quick-Navi menu system similar to what Sony used with the A-700, 850 and 900 models.
