Default With the following characteristics, what is my ideal camera?

I am looking for a camera with at least the following characteristics:

* ultra-compact (very important!)
* strong body
* 4 Megapixel (definitely 3,2 MP but I prefer 4 MP)
* SD memory card
* excellent battery performance
* 3X optical zoom
* good intershot times

The price is not that important.

I considered the Nikon Coolpix 3700, but I would like more MP.
I also looked at Pentax Optio S4.
I also lookad at Canon powershot S400.

What do you think? Any other interesting models that match the criteria? Thanks a lot.

The only one you listed that is “ultra compact” is the S4. It is IMO the most competent of the really small cameras. Lots of interesting modes. Another is the Casio Z4 with the nice 2 inch LCD. Since you have to make all the settings in the LCD the large one is nice. Not as many advanced modes but useable. The S400 takes CF cards I think.

Have a look at the Minolta G500. Very competent and inexpensive 5Mp camera with a 3X optical lens. It isn’t an ultra compact but is pocketable and compact. It takes SD cards. Metal body. Battery will fill a 256Mb card – you have to get a spare with most small cameras if you want to go over that. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...mage_g500.html
