Default Pictures on a cloudy day

What should one do when taking pictures outside on a cloudy day to maximize the situation? Just returned from a cruise and when we were in San Francisco, it was quite cloudy and all my pictures, while otherwise were good, just look bland.

Increasing your contrast and saturation settings can make a big difference. You can also do this in post-process, so it really isn't that bad. In fact, I prefer having the camera output less contrasty pictures, to avoid blowing highlights.

I totally agree with VTphotog. The less the camera does while capturing the photo the better! It's not hard to adjust the settings of a photo in editing software to bring out the desired effects in a photo to make them "Pop"!

Allthough the atmosphere on a cloudy day is something special! It can be a very amazing picture without setting anything on the camera!
