Default Lenses made in China, Taiwan and Malaysia

I have read many reviews of lenses made for both Canon's and Nikon's that were made in China, Taiwan or Malaysia. Many reviewers have claimed that they have been lab tested and found to be of superior optical quality. Some reviewers have went so far as to claim that some are even better than the older Japanese made equivalents. How can this be ? I'm sorry, but from my experience, I find it very hard to believe that a lens made in China, Taiwan or Malaysia is of the same quality of the old Japanese made lenses. I know that they are priced much cheaper, but are they of the same or even higher quality of the old Japanese made lenses ? I think not, but I have been wrong before. Can someone explain this ? Your comments please. Thanks.

Thanks to modern assembly and testing techniques, equipment and training, any literate individual with average motor skills can do quite well.
  • The lens is the thing.
  • 'Full Frame' is the new 'Medium Format'.
