I am trying to decide whether to take to Europe a Nixon 8800 which came out in 2004 and a Canon 120sx which came out in 2009. They have made so many changes to cameras that my fear is that the Nixon won't produce the quality of photos that the Canon will. I don't care about the size of the camera, I just want the best photos. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, the Nikon has the better optics- and a bigger sensor- and at low iso settings and in good light I'd suggest the Nikon would produce better IQ- despite its creaking bones..!
Neither camera are speed demons- Nikon held back by the older processor,Canon by the use of AA batteries I suspect..! On the subject of batteries- whilst I'm no fan of AA usage- at least you can get them anywhere should you get caught short. Here's a thought- if you're not bothered about the size of the camera- take both... the Canon will at least fit into a decent sized pocket... and if you have a mishap with one, at least you have back up.
