Default Minolta S414, Canon A70, Coolpix 3100

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to find the right cam to buy but I can't take a decision. Becuse of my budget I have selected 3 cams: Minolta S414, Canon A70, Coolpix 3100. I think Minolta is good for its 4x optical zoom and for full manual controls; Canon A70 for manual controls and Coolpix for quality of the images.
On the other side I'm afraid about Minolta for the short battery life, Canon for possible error (like E 18) which suggest me a weak cam while for Coolpix I have only little dubt about batteries.

Can someone help me?

Thanks of all

I don’t know S414 but between canon A70 and nikon 3100 i would go for nikon for itīs reliability and durability , I did not bought Nikon just because it does not record sound. About image qualitie they seem quite similar to me .

I've used both the A70 and the S404 (this is the earlier version of the S414).
Personally I would give the Minolta the edge. The A70 appears to give more saturated colors out of the box but based on the following the Minolta has an edge,

4X zoom,
better flash (less red eye)
more durable (metal vs combo metal and plastic)
4.1 vs 3.2 megapixels
better buffer

both cameras have some flaws,
the Minolta's include,
Poor on-off switch,
images sometimes need to be processed with Minolta utility
battery consumption (2100+ma NiMh battereis have solved that)

I strongly urge you to test run the cameras if possible.

I have the S414 and battery life is not an issue at all if you just buy a Maha recharger and a couple of sets of batteries, I too looked at the same 3 cameras (and also the A-80) but for me at least the S414 had a superior set of features.
